For our trip to Dollywood for my birthday, we decided to go tent camping at the Pigeon Forge Landing RV Resort for two nights (but I think it might technically be in Sevierville, TN?). Our spot was right along a little creek which made for a lot of fun for our four year old! Malcolm spent most of the time playing in the water, throwing rocks in to watch the splash, and catching bugs.
We were surprised that at night he didn't seem scared. He loved being in the tent with the top open to look up at the night sky. The sound of the bugs and the water flowing right beside us was also quite soothing.
We did have a couple fails. First, we forgot to bring plates and bowls. Second, we couldn't quite get the grill hot enough to cook food. It took two hours to make hot dogs at night and pancakes in the morning...
Because we had so much trouble with the food, we decided to go out to eat. Right near the campsite was the Iron Forge Brewing Company. They had great outdoor seating around a fire and good food, which added to the outdoor camping experience we were trying to achieve!
On our last morning, we stopped by the Apple Barn Orchard for breakfast. Inside the different rooms of the restaurant were bird habitats! They also served a delicious apple butter, that we made sure to pick up (along with apple cider) at their on site store.
