It was our first time visiting Oktoberfest in Helen, GA. After a three hour drive along a winding road with a mountain on one side and a rapid filled river on the other, we spent another 45 minutes looking for parking and ended up missing the parade!
We still had a lot of fun exploring the cute German themed town. The gingerbreading on the buildings and festive music helped set the scene and make you feel like you were in another country.
We enjoyed a German lunch of bratwurst and schnitzel, and Chris tried three different German beers. We only visited one of the biergartens, but we did leave with a souvenir mug, a bottle of German wine, and a wooden toy sword for Malcolm!
On the way home, we stopped at 'Pappy's', a roadside attraction. The restaurant was closed down, but the murals and old cars made for a great photo spot for Chris. Dinner was at a barbeque place with piggy banks all over the walls and was actually the best meal of the trip!
